News from the Mission Committee

Greetings from Mission Committee and other recruits. Our sails are up and catching the wind.  We are experiencing some exciting God planned events.  On Monday, March 8, nine of us  traveled to Open Door in Columbus.  That morning, I saw the hands and feet of Jesus at work, buying and serving sausage and biscuits to over 30 homeless people, packing brown paper bags with toilet items, folding laundry, matching up socks, issuing out clean clothing and spreading toothpaste on toothbrushes for the people after they had showered.  Our goal is to have 16 volunteers to help, so we can have teams of 4 to serve breakfast and help as needed on a morning week in an ongoing rotation.  During the month of April, we will be collecting socks, new underwear, tee shirts, toothbrushes and disposable razors for Open Door.  These items can be left in the church office library or brought on Sundays.  On May 2, immediately following the 11:00 service, we will have a lunch as a fundraiser to help defray expenses for a three day mission trip to Upper Sand Mountain Parish at Sylvania, AL.  We will leave Sunday PM on June 6 and return Wednesday PM on June 9.  I already have some recruits but anyone who wants to embark on this mission should let me know by April 12.  Some of our congregation have expressed interest in partnering with Manchester FUMC on a mission trip to El Salvador on July 14-21. Five of us met with them in February.  The cost is $800.  Please let us know if you are interested .  If you feel led to help in any way, just jump on board for we need new hands daily to keep our ships ’a sailing’ for the Lord.
